Presently it has transitioned from Udacity to Canvas
What made OMSCS by Georgia Tech unique was the fact that it was at par with the on-campus versions of the same but was made accessible to students online.
Once you pay for the session, you were to get access to their best-in-class Slack community, wherein you can receive assistance around the class.
How Are Georgia Tech OMSCS-Udacity Related?
Udacity was initially the content delivery platform wherein the courses were once available. So, any Georgia Tech OMS student seeking the OMSCS orientation session would head straight to Udacity.
The session was drafted and launched in the Spring of 2014 and branded as a one-of-a-kind MOOC-based degree program. Within no time, OMSCS became the top-notch master’s program in America, and the rest of the world, seeing more than 10000 enrolments.
Is the Udacity-Georgia Tech Affiliation Still Valid?
In the 2020 fall session, the OMSCS program from Georgia Tech on Udacity was discontinued and no longer offered via Udacity. However, you can still find some OMSCS classes on Udacity (we have listed them below). But hereon everything is being transferred to Canvas, Georgia Tech’s proprietary learning management system. It was a long-due transition. Nevertheless, here is how the switch happened:
Across the whole session, Georgia Tech handled the academic aspect of things, comprising formal assessments, administration, and faculty, and Udacity catered to the course production and hosting. However, over time, Udacity’s role in the process reduced, and Georgia Tech started independently catering to the program’s maximum aspects.
However, by Spring 2014, with the Udacity OMSCS launch, Udacity had already switched from academia toward industry.
Udacity’s signature micro-credential academic subjects were deemphasized for more vocational ones. In addition, the university partnerships changed to industry partnerships.
We reviewed Udacity’s end-of-year analysis and found that in 2019, Udacity launched eight times fewer courses than they did in 2015, and their Nanodegree programs now cost almost four times more. It is in sharp contrast to Georgia Tech’s OMSCS classes because the University is driven and rooted in academia.
They are committed to the motto of accessibility via technology and affordability. Consequently, it resulted in the clash of mannerisms of working in Udacity and Georgia Tech, forcing the latter to eliminate the Udacity OMSCS course. Elimination of intermediaries also meant considerable savings for learners.
Since the fall of 2020, all the courses have been provided via Canvas. Thus, Georgia Tech has ceased the account creation process for new OMSCS students following the demolition of the seven-year partnership. Hence, now, this accreditation is no longer valid.
How Can Learners Transition from Udacity to Canvas?
The best thing about OMSCS classes on Udacity and Canvas is that they both look and feel the same. Everything previously available on Udacity – the quizzes, videos, and other resources was migrated to the Canvas site.
Thus for the transitioning student, there should be no complexities. The best part is that all the Udacity OMSCS material you found on the MOOC is available at more reasonable pricing on Canvas.

Do You Get The Same Job Opportunities With OMCS As Regular Masters?
Fortunately, after completing the OMSCS classes, you will have access to the same opportunities as regular masters because the course is recognized and accredited. In addition, it also teaches you the same curriculum.
Is The Fees for OMSCS Higher Than a Regular Degree?
For the OMSCS, the cost depends on how fast you complete your program. If you are a part-time or full-time working student, you can take two OMSCS courses per term. Hence, you will conclude the session in five terms, costing $6600.
Nevertheless, if you finish the class faster, you pay less. Even though the regular CS has a higher fee, it is variable and differs for every university.
Can You Go for A Doctorate After OMSCS?
Of course, you can pursue a Ph.D. after OMSCS classes. This OMSCS program with specialization courses is at par with a regular master’s program and makes you eligible for a Ph.D.
